Framing Furniture through Disgital Design and Fabrication

Stegreif | Winter Semester 2024 - 2025 |

Professur Digital Design and Fabrication

T-T Professor Moritz Dörstelmann, Fanny Kranz, Vincent Witt.

A Stegreif of the KIT professorship Digital Design & Fabrication (DDF) in collaboration with Nyta for COLA TAXI OKAY e.V.

The intercultural project space COLA TAXI OKAY on Kronenplatz has been offering a place for encounters, dialogue and creative work for everyone since 2016. Now the space needs new furniture and the team is open to exciting, experimental concepts. Supported by product designers Nyta, CODE LIKE SOFA aims to explore the possibilities of digital and robotic design and realisation for this project. These technologies are often closer to human work processes than to traditional industrial applications. In both cases, the interplay of sensor technology, intelligence and flexible and reactive handling enables more complex and differentiated work than would be possible with industrial methods, which have their strengths in standardisation and repetition. From this point of view, a design is to be developed that could be realised by either machines or humans or in any cooperation of both and thus reflects this specific relationship. The choice of materials and fabrication methods is free. The concepts and models developed will serve as the basis for a second DIY Stegreif in spring 2025 in which the furniture will be manufactured.
