This Vertiefung “Digital Design and Fabrication” complements the design studio “Umbau First! ” at the Professorship of Hebel and explores the potential of digital design and construction technologies for the sustainable transformation of existing buildings. Students develop digital construction processes in relation to materiality, fabrication, and assembly, examining both architectural design and building technology aspects.

This includes, for example, strategies for reuse, serial renovation concepts, and the application of heterogeneous, reclaimed, or rapidly renewable materials within the diverse existing building stock, in order to derive architectural design approaches for circular and resource-efficient architecture.
